Over the coming weeks, Windermere HOA residents will notice speed limit signs changing from 20 MPH to 25 MPH. This stems from a recent ordinance change promulgated by the City of Fishers. So, how could increasing our neighborhood speed limit by 5 MPH be a good thing?
Enforcement: Our current 20 MPH speed limit is not enforceable. For example, if someone is driving 29 MPH, currently the Fishers Police Department (FPD) has no authority to write a ticket since the current ordinance is 30 MPH in residential areas. By updating our signs in combination with the ordinance change, Fishers PD will have the authority to issue tickets for those traveling over the 25 MPH speed limit.
Uniformity: The City of Fishers is requiring all neighborhoods to post 25 MPH signs. This creates a standard of uniformity in all Fishers neighborhoods, so no matter where people drive in Fishers the neighborhood speed limit is always 25 MPH (unless the street is privately owned).
Safety: The Board of Directors will continue to monitor speeding in our neighborhood. If needed, we will contact Fishers PD and request extra patrols to pull over and control speeders.
